Others may require more structured, long-term support in specialist settings designed for more complex\u00a0and profound\u00a0needs.<\/p><p>Schools follow the SEND Code of Practice, which outlines how children must be supported, with parents\u2019 and children\u2019s views placed at the centre.<\/p><p>The first level of help is\u00a0<b>SEN Support<\/b>. This means the school puts targeted strategies in place and reviews progress regularly.\u00a0These are documented in Individual Support Plans (ISP).<\/p><p>If needs are significant and long-term, parents can request anassessment for an\u00a0<b>Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)<\/b>\u00a0through the school or directly via the Local Authority. An EHCP is a legal document detailing your child\u2019s needs and the support that must be provided.<\/p><p>This is about ensuring your child is not left to struggle quietly.<\/p><p>Seeking support does not cancel faith. Prayer and practical help are not opposites. Request a meeting with your child\u2019s setting.<\/b><br \/>Contact the class teacher or SEN\u00a0Coordinator (SENCo). Look for the SEND Information Report on the school website.<\/p><p><b>3. Stay calm and factual.<\/b><br \/>Ask:\u00a0<i>What are you seeing\u00a0in school\/nursery? What support is in place? How can we work together?<\/i><\/p><p><b>4. Start a record.<\/b><br \/>Keep notes of conversations, reports, behaviour patterns, and examples from home\u00a0(video). Dates matter. Evidence matters. It protects you later.<\/p><p><b>5. Speak to health professionals.<\/b><br \/>If concerns relate to speech, behaviour, attention, or development, request referrals via your GP or Health Visitor. Schools can also initiate referrals.<\/p><p><b>6. Educate yourself \u2014 quietly but firmly.<\/b><br \/>Every Local Authority publishes a SEND\u00a0<b>Local Offer<\/b>. Families don\u2019t struggle due to lack of care \u2014 they struggle due to lack of clarity.<\/p><p>Three principles make a significant difference:<\/p><p><b>Be organised.<\/b><br \/>Keep emails, reports, and notes in one place. Create a simple folder system. Paper trails matter.<\/p><p><b>Be politely persistent.<\/b><br \/>Follow up. Ask questions. Request timelines. Delays are common; silence should not be.<\/p><p><b>Focus on needs, not emotions.<\/b><br \/>Frustration is natural, but decisions are driven by evidence. Clear, factual communication carries weight.<\/p><p>Most importantly:<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><b>Do not try to navigate SEND alone.<\/b><b><\/b><\/p><p>Speak to your SENCo. Connect with informed parents. Seek advocacy when needed.
